AL Team Notes - May 2, 2005

Baltimore - Winning 7 of their last 10 games, the Robins moved out to a 4 game lead in the AL East. SS Krista Allen (.356, 3 hr, 16 rbi) and CF Christina Aguilera (.344, 2, 9) continue to lead the way. Allen hit an amazing .500 over her last five games (9-18, 1 hr, 4 rbi). P Joanne Whalley is 2-0 in her last 3 games (23 ip) with a 1.96 era. The Robins have remained relatively injury free so far this season with no players being placed on the disabled list.

Boston - 1B Diane Farr has been in a slump after winning the April AL Player of the Month award. Farr batted .344 with 8 homeruns and 18 RBI in April - but in her last 5 games, she is batting .200 (4-20). LF Kylie Bax continues to wield a hot bat and leads the AL in hitting with a .373 average. P Chandra North is 3-0 in her last four games with a 2.17 era in 29 ip.

Chicago - Single A prospect, C Gaby Hoffman is out at least 5 weeks with a broken finger. The Banshees lead the league in stolen bases with 35 - OF Kimberly Williams (8 steals) and OF Nikki Cox (7) top the team. P Tweet Keys is tied for 2nd in the league with a 2.30 era and is 2nd in strikeouts with 46.

Colorado - SS Meg Ryan's bat is starting to warm up - over the last 6 games, she hit .417, with 2 hr and 7 rbi. For the season, Ryan is hitting .294 with 7 hr and 18 rbi, leading the team in all three categories. P Sarah O'Hare is 3-0 in her last 3 games with a 1.19 era. CF Jodie Foster is mired in a terrible slump. She is hitting just .053 (2-38, 0 hr, 0 rbi) over last 11 games. Her average stands at .175 for the season. AL stolen base leader LF Amanda Peet went on the 15 Day DL on 4/29 with a strained achilles tendon.

Dallas - The Diamonds, looking to build some depth in their farm system, signed 5 players to minor league contracts on 5/2 - LF Audrey Quock, LF Gloria Reuben, P Bridget Fonda, 1B Nikki Ziering, and 3B Olivia D'abo. All five were assigned to the AAA Houston Moondragons. Despite 20 strike-outs in 92 ab's, 1B Danielle Fishel is hitting .315 and just recently had a 12 game hitting streak end.

Detroit - The Divas' hitting woes continue. They are last in the VBL in average, home runs, and runs scored. They are hitting 62 points behind the league leading Seattle Emeralds and have hit only 9 home runs in 24 games. Only one player, LF Dominique Swain, is in double digits in rbi's with 10. She also leads the team with 2 hr's, but is hitting only .164 and has 21 k's in 67 ab's.

New York - Though their hitting is only recently starting to show signs of life, it is the Nighthawks' pitching that has got them hovering around the .500 mark. P Joy Enriquez went 3-0 over her last 3 games with a 2.01 era and his 4-0 on the season with a 2.65 era. P Nikka Costa, despite a 2.30 era (tied for 2nd in the AL), is only 1-3. P Kelis Rogers is 4-1 with a 3.14 era.

Texas - The Wildcats are neck and neck with the Valkyries for the AL West lead. Starting May 2, Texas hosts a rare 4 game series with Colorado, which may help each team take a measure of the other. RHP Alyson Hannigan will pitch the first game, followed by RHP Gabriela Sabatini, LHP Deanna Carter and RHP Magdalena Wrobel. This should prove to be a good test for quickly improving rotation.
